Melissa Coomber-Bendtsen
CEO, YWCA Regina
As the youngest CEO in the 110-year history of the YWCA Regina, Melissa Coomber-Bendtsen, has been leading the organization since 2015. Prior to this, Melissa worked in a variety of community-based agencies such as Regina Alternative Measures Program, RCMP Depot, and the YMCA of Regina. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated the capacity to exercise strategic leadership in response to community needs. In both her personal and professional roles, she is a passionate advocate for social justice and change. Melissa’s background includes a Bachelor of Education from the University of Regina, restorative justice work with young people, as well as community programs and involvements in the areas of employment, education, childcare, housing, outreach, and leadership.
Melissa was the recipient of the University of Regina 2022 Humanitarian and Community Service Award. This was in recognition of her remarkable contributions toward community and humanitarian service that has positively affected the well-being of others. Melissa also received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, in 2023, for her outstanding and important contributions within the community.
As the leader of the largest and longest serving women’s organization in Regina, Melissa is dedicated to supporting the community and creating the space for change. Melissa lives in Regina with her husband, and enjoys spending her leisure time with her family and relaxing at the lake.
